Athenry Walled Towns Day 2025

Discover the best preserved medieval town in Ireland by celebrating Athenry's Walled Towns Day on Sunday 17th August 2025.

Join us in Athenry Community Park and the Athenry Heritage Centre for a free family fun day celebrating the rich heritage of Athenry. This year’s theme, “Exploring Our Foundations,” invites visitors of all ages to enjoy a vibrant mix of arts, crafts, music, song and dance, medieval reenactments, puppet shows, children’s activities, food stalls, historical presentations, and a walking tour of the historic town. Step back in time and experience the magic of medieval Athenry!

This event is organised by Galway County Council's Heritage Office and the Athenry Arts and Heritage Centre. It is supported by Athenry Tidy Towns, Athenry Community Council, Athenry Area Office of Galway County Council and the local businesses and community of Athenry. It is funded by the Heritage Council and Galway County Council.

 

 Discover the best medieval town in Ireland with Failte Ireland Tour Guide Gerry Burke. 

 Gerry's tours commence from 1:30pm at the front entrance of Athenry Castle and run every hour.

 All participants will also receive a walking tour map of the town.

 This event is part of Athenry's Walled Towns Day and is free to attend.

 Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult. 

 Hi viz jackets will be supplied for the duration of the walking tour.
