Visitors are taken on a journey where history comes alive through interactive exhibits of weaponry, the market square, the dungeon and model displays of the medieval town. The centre is also home to Athenry's original Mace & Seal, the oldest of their kind in Ireland. All groups receive a personal tour with an experienced guide and for your comfort there's seating throughout the centre.
The activities of the Athenry Heritage Centre are designed to be inclusive to all, so in addition of a general tour, the centre also provides a 'Medieval Experience' which is an opportunity to dress up in medieval costume and test your skills with have a go archery. A general tour of the centre lasts about one hour and two hours for the 'Medieval Experience', however all tours can be tailored to suit the needs of your group or organisation. There is a dedicated bus parking in the town and the centre is a ten minute walk from Athenry train station.
In addition to the heritage centre, the town has an Anglo-Norman castle, the 13th century Dominican Priory, the original North Gate, the defensive walls and towers which makes Athenry the best preserved medieval town in Ireland.
